Julie Buckley graduated from Moorhead High School in 1987 as valedictorian. During high school, she was active in orchestra, Apollo Strings, choir, Carolers, musicals, Knowledge Bowl, and Key Club. She was co-concertmaster of the Minnesota All-State Orchestra and F-M Youth Symphony and winner of the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony’s Young Artists Competition. Buckley was a state qualifier in swimming and held regional and school records. She received a Silver Congressional Award and was named a United States Presidential Scholar in 1987.

Buckley majored in biology and chemistry at St. Olaf College and graduated summa cum laude in 1991. She earned her medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1995 and completed an internship in anatomic pathology at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She was a resident in diagnostic radiology at the University of Pennsylvania and Stanford University Medical Center. She received the Roentgen Resident Research Award from the Radiological Society of North America in 1998, the McCormick Research Trainee Award for Stanford University postdoctoral fellows, and the Distinguished Resident Award from the American Association for Women Radiologists in 2000. She completed her fellowship in cross-sectional body imaging (CT, MR and Ultrasound) at Stanford University Medical Center in 2001.

In 2001, Buckley joined Palo Alto Medical Clinic as a diagnostic radiologist with subspecialty areas of body imaging and women’s imaging. At the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, she has served as the department chair of radiology, where she oversaw the conversion to PACS and digital imaging and the incorporation of radiology into the electronic medical record. She is a delegate to the American Society for Clinic Radiologists. Buckley has been on the Voluntary Clinical Faculty of the Department of Radiology at Stanford University and an undergraduate and medical student advisor.

Buckley has published numerous scientific articles, authored book chapters, and presented at national radiological meetings. She is a member of the Radiological Society of North America, Roentgen Ray Society, California Radiological Society and American Association for Women Radiologists. In addition, Buckley plays the violin in the Palo Alto Philharmonic and Oaks String Quartet.

Julie and her husband, Eric T. Fung, M.D., Ph.D., have two children, Jeffrey and Justin. They live in Los Altos, California.
